Carthage ISD Adopts Mission, Vision, Goals
BK students are learning about World War 2
At the April 15 board meeting, the board of trustees adopted the revised mission, vision, and goals.  CLICK HERE to read them.

A mission describes what every employee must be focused on in their daily work in Carthage ISD.  The vision describes what we, as a district, aspire to become in 5 years, and the goal shows the 3 year goal that we wish to reach academically.  To support this, the board identified 5 priorities that they will fulfill in order to support the district in fulfilling the mission, vision and goals.  Finally, our motto is our calling card to remind us and everyone in the community what Carthage ISD is stands for, "Where Champions are Educated".

Week of April 15

Celebrate Excellence - Texas Legislature Update
The Texas Legislature has been very busy passing legislation to benefit Texas public schools.  I wanted to give you an update on bills that are aligned with our legislative priorities as well as other areas that would benefit our district.
Primary PK Students visited the Shreveport
Aquarium thanks to the CISD Education
    Foundation.

  • SPECIAL NOTE - All bills must be signed by the Governor before they become law.  The Governor has not signed any of the bills listed below and will not until both houses pass the bill and send to the governor for approval.
  • Teacher Retirement - Senate Bill 12 was passed to increase funding to TRS and provide additional funds to current retirees and the bill has been sent to the Texas House.
  • Increased Funding,  Decreased Recapture, & Increased Teacher Pay - House Bill 3 was passed recently and is now being discussed in the Texas Senate.  This bill will increase school funding across the board and decrease reliance on recapture.  This is good news for Texas public schools, but we do not have an firm number on how much it will financially help  Carthage ISD.
  • Academic Accountability - House Bill 4242 is being debated.  The bill would suspend penalties to schools based on STAAR testing until the Texas Education Agency conducts a thorough review of the current assessment system which has been under a lot of scrutiny.  Some proponents for the bill assert that the tests having a readability level that is 1 or 2 grade levels above the grade level assessed.
We will continue to keep you aware of the issues that arise in Austin and the potential impact on Carthage ISD.

Come out to the Steptoe Classic this Saturday!

Carthage Special Occasions Closet
The wonderful thing about Carthage is how we have such a giving community.  We care about one another, and we will do anything to help one another.  I would like to share a new project that has emerged to help our students.  Carolyn Wink created an initiative called the Carthage Special Occasions Closet.  CLICK HERE to go to the Facebook Page.

The mission of the closet is to provide students with formal attire for special occasions such as dances, awards assemblies and even Prom.  There are several people in the community who have volunteered to join in on the project, and currently they are expanding the closet to begin providing toiletry items and regular clothes.  Currently, the program has begun at the JH and the HS.

If you would like to participate in this project, please contact Carolyn Wink at 903-806-1229 or by messaging her on Facebook.  If you or someone you know would like to seek assistance from this great initiative, please contact your school counselor or Carolyn.

Week of April 8

Celebrate Excellence - #LoveMySchoolDay, 4/11/19
#LoveMySchoolDay is an initiative that began 6 years ago on April 11.  The purpose of this initiative was to encourage educators and supporters of education to use their social media accounts to tell the world the positive things happening on their campuses.

On Thursday, April 11, I would like to invite you in joining me in posting the reasons why you love Carthage ISD, a campus in CISD, an educator or employee in CISD or a program or initiative that you love in CISD.  The world deserves to hear the 411 about Carthage ISD, and I hope that you will tell your story.

Congratulations to our Boys Soccer Team!
Congratulations to Coach Watson and the Bulldog Soccer team on a great season.  While the boys lost in the first round of the playoffs to Lumberton, we are so proud of their hard work this year.
